For those who want to do the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

These are important notes about making reservations to do the “Inca Trail to Machu Picchu”, in whichever of its forms, especially with regards to the classic route which consists of 4 days and 3 nights, as well as the route that’s comprised of just 2 days and 1 night.

The Inca Trail is, without discussion, one of the most requested trips for tourists in the whole world.

However before the year 2000, the Inca Trail was not limited to the amount of people who could take part in the trek nor did you need to go through a travel agency to do this trek.

Nevertheless, we don’t have any control over incidents that can possibly occur along this route such as acquiring an illness due to contamination or any other accidents like suffering from a fall or getting lost on the trail.

It is because of this that starting in the year 2000, this route has been regulated by a government organization, which is that of the Ministry of Culture. Authorizing only 500 spots a day between the months of March and January. Every month in the month of February, the Inca Trail is kept closed for maintenance.

Among these 500 spots a day that are offered by the Ministry of Culture, only an average of 180 of these people are tourists. The other spots are reserved for support staff like for the guides, the porters, and the cooks.

It is for this very reason that the spots along the Inca Trail fill up quickly, especially during the months of May to October, for which we recommend that you reserve a minimum of 6 months in advance for these months and for the rest of the months of the year we recommend that you reserve your spot 3 months in advance.

During the first years that we began operating the  Inca Trail., with a lot of pity, we had to respond to hundreds of requests to make a reservation for the Inca Trail with a negative response. This is because the spots had completely filled up.

It seems incredible that in the month of January of every year the spots fill up quickly, but this happens even more so in the months of April, May, and June, and then later they had also started to fill up for the months of March, July, and October as well.

A lot of our tourists write to us when there are no longer any available spots left. It’s unfortunately a pity to have to respond to them with a negative response having to explain to them that there are not any spots left on the Inca Trail.

This article is written to advise the new traveller who would like to explore the Inca Trail and for those travellers who don’t want to be surprised by the fact that there are not any spaces left on the trail. Our recommendation would be to not wait until the last minute to make your reservation. If you have already decided to go on this trek, our recommendation would be to make your reservation well enough in advance, especially if it is for the months of April, May, and June. You should especially reserve a minimum of 6 months or more in advance for these three months.

If you have any doubts about this trek or want to make a reservation, please write to us at: reservations@infocusco.net
